Chianti Cherries

1 pound cherries, stemmed and pitted
OR 1 pound plums or pears, diced
1 cup Chianti or other red wine
zest of 1 lemon


Simmer all ingredients together in a saucepan for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally
Cover and let stand for 2-3 hours

Serve with juice and whipped cream or mascarpone
