Poached Peaches or Pears

1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup sweet white wine
2 1/2 – 3 inch stick cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 medium pears, peeled, halved and cored
OR medium peaches, peeled, halved and pitted

In large skillet, bring sugar, wine, cinnamon, vanilla and 3/4 cup water to boiling
Add pears or peaches
Reduce heat, simmer, covered, for 10-15 minutes or until fruit is tender
Remove cinnamon

Serve warm, chilled or with vanilla ice cream
